Martins Ferry will hold Clean-up Day on May 3rd from 8:00am until Noon at the City Garage located at 1st and Center Streets. ? ?
Among the items not being accepted are: ?roofing shingles, building materials, tires, chemicals, oil based paints, concrete, plaster, bricks, asbestos, and electronics.
Proof of Martins Ferry residency is required by using driver’s license or utility bill stub.

The Water Department will flush fire hydrants beginning Sunday night April 13th from 10:00pm to 6:00am. ?The process will continue through the entire week. ?Residents can expect water discoloration while this process takes place.

The Martins Ferry Hall of Honor Committee has announced the 2014 Inductees. ?The induction ceremony which is open to the public will take place on Sunday April 6th at 2:00pm in the Martins Ferry High School Cafetorium.

All City offices will be closed on Monday January 20th to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. ?Those citizens with normal sanitation pickup on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday instead. ?All other citizens will remain on the normal schedule.

Due to the extreme cold that’s expected over the next several days, the following “warming centers” for Martins Ferry and Colerain will be available to anyone needing to escape the cold. The locations are:

The weekend following Thanksgiving will see a major event in Martins Ferry thanks to Sgt. Beth Scales and her group of volunteers. The City will celebrate “Christmas in the Park” beginning at noon on Friday November 29th and continuing through Saturday November 30th. ?
Martins Ferry’s City Park will be transformed into a wintry scene of twinkling lights and festive decorations including a synthetic ice rink which can accommodate up to 35 people at one time. ?Along with many Food and Craft vendors, Santa Claus will also be available for pictures with children for a charge of $5. ?
The fun kicks off on Friday when the festival opens at Noon. ?The lighting of City Park ceremony will take place at 5 pm. ?At 6:30 pm, the Martins Ferry Fire Department’s Annual Christmas Parade will begin. ?This year’s parade route has been altered slightly so that it will end in front of City Park. ?
In conjunction with “Christmas in the Park” on Saturday, The Martins Ferry Chamber of Commerce will mark “Small Business Saturday”. ?Everyone is encouraged to help strengthen the community by making holiday purchases at the many small retailers located in the City. ?The Saturday festivities in the park will run from 11 am to 7 pm.
Those attending the festivities are asked to bring a canned good to help support The Bread of Life Center which helps feed the needy of our area. ?

City offices will be closed for Veterans Day, Monday November 11th. Those residents with sanitation pick up on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday instead. ?Sanitation routes will begin early Tuesday and residents are reminded to place their containers out early.

The major water line break which occurred yesterday is still affecting water service to residents from Mackey Avenue to the northern city limits. ??The Water Department hopes to have all repairs completed and service restored within the next 24 hours, after which a 48 hour boil order will be in effect.
Emergency water stations for both drinking and non-drinking water are now open at the entrance to Floral Valley and the Liberty Fire Station located at 5th and Center Streets.
Residents are asked to bring containers for water.

Mayor Paul Riethmiller is pleased to announce that Martins Ferry has been chosen by the JB Green Team to be the Belmont County site of a Pilot Recycling Program. ?The City is in the process of seeking interested 1st Ward Residents to become a part of the experimental process.
1st Ward residents were recently sent informational mailings encouraging participation in the program. ?A maximum of 400 households are needed and residents are asked to contact the Mayor’s office at 633-2876 if they wish to participate.
The participating residents will receive a 65 gallon recycling material container and instructions on what materials can be recycled.
The program is designed to reduce the amount of material going to landfills and thereby helping to keep the City’s sanitation costs as low as possible. ?If the pilot program is deemed a success it could be expanded to the entire City and ultimately throughout Belmont County.
