Sanitation Schedule Change

In observance of Martins Luther King Jr. Day, all city offices will be closed. ?Those citizens with sanitation pick up normally on Mondays will be picked up on Tuesday January 20th instead.


Sanitation Pickup Schedule Altered for Veterans’ Day

City offices will be closed on Tuesday November 11th in observance of Veterans’ Day. ?Those citizens with sanitation pickup normally scheduled on Tuesday will instead have pickup service on Wednesday. ?All other service days will remain on a normal schedule.


City to Hold Veterans’ Day Program

The 3rd Annual Veterans’ Day Program will take place on Saturday, November 8th beginning at 1:00 pm. ?The festivities will kick off with a parade from the Liberty Fire Station to the City Park.

All veterans are cordially invited to attend. ?The program in the park will include guest speakers and lunch for all veterans provided by the Martins Ferry Lions Club.

Fall Cleanup Day Slated

The City’s annual Fall Cleanup Day will take place on Saturday October 4th from 8:00am to Noon at the City Garage located at 1st and Center Streets.

Citizens are asked to bring proof of residency (either a driver’s license or a utility bill stub).

Neighborhood Trick or Treating Scheduled

This year door-to-door Trick or Treating will be held on Wednesday October 29th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. ?Participating citizens are asked to have their porch lights lit to welcome the children.

This year’s event has been moved to a few days before Halloween to accommodate the annual Martins Ferry/Bellaire football game bonfire on October 30th and the game which will take place on Halloween.


Senator Gentile Schedules Town Hall

State Senator Lou Gentile of Ohio’s 30th District will visit Martins Ferry on Monday?October 6th at 6:00pm. ?The town hall style meeting will take place at the Martins Ferry Public Library Auditorium located at 20 South 5th Street.

Senator Gentile will provide updates on legislation at the state level as well as hear concerns from local citizens. ?Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice heard.


County Commissioners Schedule Town Hall

The Belmont County Commissioners have scheduled a visit to Martins Ferry to conduct a Town Hall Meeting. ?The public is encouraged to attend and ask questions regarding Belmont County issues.

The Town Hall will take place on Wednesday September 17th at 5:00pm prior to the city’s regular Council Meeting.


City Offices Closed for Labor Day

All city offices will be closed Monday, September 1st in observance of Labor Day. ?Those citizens with regular sanitation pickup on Mondays will be picked up instead on Tuesday.

The street sweeper will not run on Monday and vehicles will not need to be moved on Labor Day.

 


Town Hall Meeting Scheduled

jack ceraState Representative Jack Cera of the 96th District of Ohio will be in Martins Ferry for a Town Hall Meeting on Monday June 16th at 6pm. ?The meeting will take place in the Donald Myers City Council Chamber located on the second floor of the Martins Ferry City Building.

Citizens will have the opportunity to ask Rep. Cera questions as well as voice concerns ?regarding state government policies and issues.

Representative Cera is a member of the Ohio House committees on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Finance and Appropriations, Public Utilities, and Ways and Means. ?Learn more about Rep. Cera by clicking here.


Annual Fire Department Memorial Service Held

The Martins Ferry Fire Department’s Annual Memorial Service took place on Sunday May 4th. ?The service, which rotates between all of the churches in the city, was held at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Philip Van Dam officiating.
Wreath Laying
After the church service, department members proceeded to the City Park for a brief service in which the names of the deceased firefighters were added to Fire Department Memorial Monument. This portion of the ceremony also included the laying of memorial wreaths and flowers at the foot of the monument.

In addition to remembering all deceased firefighters of the community, this year’s service specifically honored four individuals who passed away in the last year as well as their families for their service and sacrifice to the community:

  • Albert Klatt
  • Chris Foose
  • Bruce Wadford
  • Albert “Pie” Walton

Fire MemorialThe names of the departed firefighters were read by former Chief Terry Wildman as bagpipes were played by Betsy McFarland. ?The names of the all deceased firefighters are listed under the company?in which they served. ?The four companies are: The Alerts, The Liberty, The Vigilants, and The Ladder Company.

Liberty MembersA luncheon was held after the services at the Liberty Engine Company. ?
