Welcome, National Lime & Stone!

Posted on: July 18, 2012

Martins Ferry welcomed The National Lime and Stone Company at a ribbon cutting today. During opening remarks, Mayor Paul Riethmiller extended thanks to all the local, county, state, and federal officials who enabled this project to reach fruition.

Among the dignitaries in attendance, State Senator Lou Gentile stressed the resilience of the people of the Ohio Valley who have experienced hard times in the past, but now face a future full of promise. State Representative Jack Cera and OMEGA Director Greg Didonato stressed the importance of cooperation of public entities in making development possible.

The National Lime and Stone Company is a privately-held, family-centered company made strong by over a century of continuous operation. The company is one of the largest sources of crushed stone, sand & gravel, and mineral products in the country. National Lime & Stone will stockpile finished product at the Martins Ferry site and scale it out to local contractors, concrete customers, & the Department of Transportation.
This new rail yard will bring additional tax revenue to the city, create 3-5 jobs for National Lime & Stone and Wheeling & Lake Erie combined, provide additional hours for 30 workers at the supplying Carey, Ohio Quarry, and deliver a quality product at competitive pricing, which should also help to stretch local tax dollars.

Proposal to Replace Municipal Swimming Pool with Indoor Aquatic Center

Posted on: July 18, 2012

With the present pool facility in need of major renovations, a committee made up of city officials, Park Board members, swim team boosters, and concerned citizens has been investigating the possibility of building a multi-faceted indoor aquatic center.

After weeks of meetings and discussions, a proposal has been developed complete with architectural renderings and designs for a brand new facility to be located on the current pool site.

The proposed aquatic center would include three separate pools: a 25 meter competition pool, a zero entry children?s pool complete with spray features and play structures, and a therapy pool. Also included in the proposed project are new locker rooms including a family changing room, a raised bleacher area for swimming competitions, large glass walls to allow for plenty of natural lighting, and renovations to the current Veterans Memorial Recreation Center.

The committee is now beginning the search for funding sources. If you would like to be a part of this project please call the Mayor?s Office at (740) 633-2876.

Welcome to the City of Martins Ferry, Ohio

Welcome to the City of Martins Ferry’s website. We invite you to browse our new website to learn more about Martins Ferry. This is our city’s first ever fully functional and user-friendly website that will be constantly updated with new content and information as we continue to build the site.

Martins Ferry is a city located along the Ohio River in eastern Belmont County and is the oldest permanent settlement in the state of Ohio settled in 1787. Martins Ferry remains the largest city in Belmont County with a population around 6,915 covering 2.3 square miles. The City of Martins Ferry has always been a great location for any industrial business because of our access to rail, river, State Route 7, and Interstate 70.

Our city, as well as the entire Ohio Valley, has been built on the coal and steel industries that thrived for decades before recently falling on hard times. While we continue to make every effort to revitalize these once vibrant industries, we also look to diversify into other industries to keep our people working with good paying jobs. The recent discovery of the Marcellus shale and Utica shale may lead to the oil and gas industries becoming a bright future for our area.

Martins Ferry is a city full of small family owned businesses that maintain pride in their unique individual stores that line our downtown business district. Our educational facilities in town are outstanding including our new state of the art Martins Ferry City School District campus and two religious schools including St. Mary’s Catholic School and the Martins Ferry Christian School. We are also truly blessed in Martins Ferry to have 14 different churches for our residents, family, and visitors to choose to worship each week.

As a lifelong resident and current mayor of the City of Martins Ferry, I consider it an honor and privilege to serve our great community with pride and passion and to lead our city into the future with positive improvements. Martins Ferry has always been, and will continue to be, a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Sincerely,

Paul Riethmiller
Mayor
