The City Council Meeting previously scheduled for Wednesday March 20th at 6pm has been rescheduled.? The?meeting will?instead be held on Monday March 25th at?5:30pm in the Donald Myers Council Chambers located on the second floor of the City Building.?

 


City Park Egg Hunt Set

Final preparations are being made for the 2nd Annual City Easter Egg Hunt.? The event will take place on Saturday March 23rd?from Noon until 2pm and is open to all Martins Ferry children ages 1 to 10.?

Hot Dogs and refreshments will be available for the children along with prizes and?a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Vineway Changing to One-Way

Beginning on Monday March 18th, a portion of Vineway Street (beginning at?the 1001 address)?will be made one-way going down the hill from Crawford Heights to Terrace Street.

This change is necessary for safety reasons.? Signs have already been posted on the road?announcing the change.

Temporary Water Disruption for Patton’s Run

Residents of the Patton’s Run portion of Martins Ferry will experience a disruption in water service during the hours of 8am and 5pm on Tuesday February 19th and Wednesday February 20th.
The disruption is necessary so that workers at Turfcare may install a new fire suppression system at the plant.

City Meet and Greet Postponed

The Martins Ferry Meet and Greet scheduled for Wednesday January 30th has been rescheduled.? The event will now take place on Wednesday February 13th at 6pm at the Veterans Memorial Recreation Center.


Sanitation Schedule Changed for King Holiday

City offices will be closed on Monday January 21st in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. ? Therefore citizens ?with regular sanitation pickup on Monday will instead have pickup service on Tuesday. ?All other citizens will be on regular sanitation schedule.


Plans Begin for Picnic in the Park

Inspired by the success of last year’s event, the Picnic in the Park Committee is working to make this year’s even better. ?To do so, they’re looking for your help. ?The Committee is actively seeking sponsors, artisans, musicians, and volunteers to help. ?This is your chance to become a part of a great community event by supplying funding, talent, ideas, or labor.

All proceeds raised from this year’s Picnic will be used for improvements to Walnut Grove Cemetery. ?This cemetery is the final resting place of heroes integral to the history of our City.

Town Hall Meeting Date Set

The City of Martins Ferry will hold a Town Hall Meeting at the Veterans Memorial Center on Wednesday January 30th at 6pm. ?This event will give citizens a chance to meet all administration members, city council members, as well members of the city’s safety forces. ?

During this year’s event, all members of the Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department will be introduced. ?The Department celebrated 125 years of service in 2012 and continues to serve the citizens of Martins Ferry with pride.

Light refreshments will be served after the event. ?Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet one on one with city officials to discuss their concerns or ideas.


Service Director Lists 2012 Water Run-off Project Completions

During his report to City Council on January 2nd, Service Director Chuck Bennett took time to thank the city employees for their work in completing several drainage issues which have plagued the city for a number of years. ?

“Early in 2012 I asked Council for $10,000 of permanent improvement funds to complete these projects throughout the city,” Bennett said. ?”Thanks to the hard work and knowledge of our employees, I am able to report the completion of these projects at a cost of just under the amount I requested.”

Bennett went on to list the following project completions:

  • Collapsed drain on Washington & Grant
  • Border Lane collapsed drain and wall issue
  • Creek wall erosion along Bruney’s alley
  • Drainage wall at top of West Vine & Willetta
  • Collapsed junction at N 8th, N 9th, and Delia
  • Collapsed creek wall and street erosion on Hickory
  • Spring Water drainage issue on Hughes Ave
  • Water runoff and icing issue on N 11th

Bennett ended his report by stating that a similar funding request will be made in the near future to complete more of these types of projects.

 


Shortcut to be Changed to One Way

Due to road slippage of Suriano Shortcut (Darrah Road) from Hillendale to Colerain Pike, the city has decided to make the road one way down the hill as of January 2, 2013. ?Signs will be posted at the bottom of the hill and additional barriers erected in the slip area.

Residents are asked to take caution when traveling the road and reminded to obey the speed limit.

In the event of an emergency, fire and ems will be permitted to proceed up the hill to Hillendale.
