Welcome to the City of Martins Ferry, Ohio

Welcome to the City of Martins Ferry’s website. We invite you to browse our new website to learn more about Martins Ferry. This is our city’s first ever fully functional and user-friendly website that will be constantly updated with new content and information as we continue to build the site.

Martins Ferry is a city located along the Ohio River in eastern Belmont County and is the oldest permanent settlement in the state of Ohio settled in 1787. Martins Ferry remains the largest city in Belmont County with a population around 6,915 covering 2.3 square miles. The City of Martins Ferry has always been a great location for any industrial business because of our access to rail, river, State Route 7, and Interstate 70.

Our city, as well as the entire Ohio Valley, has been built on the coal and steel industries that thrived for decades before recently falling on hard times. While we continue to make every effort to revitalize these once vibrant industries, we also look to diversify into other industries to keep our people working with good paying jobs. The recent discovery of the Marcellus shale and Utica shale may lead to the oil and gas industries becoming a bright future for our area.

Martins Ferry is a city full of small family owned businesses that maintain pride in their unique individual stores that line our downtown business district. Our educational facilities in town are outstanding including our new state of the art Martins Ferry City School District campus and two religious schools including St. Mary’s Catholic School and the Martins Ferry Christian School. We are also truly blessed in Martins Ferry to have 14 different churches for our residents, family, and visitors to choose to worship each week.

As a lifelong resident and current mayor of the City of Martins Ferry, I consider it an honor and privilege to serve our great community with pride and passion and to lead our city into the future with positive improvements. Martins Ferry has always been, and will continue to be, a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Sincerely,

Paul Riethmiller
Mayor
